BIM for Manufacturers image

When it comes to Building Information Modelling (BIM), manufacturers and their products play a central role. While the digitalisation of construction brings great opportunities and benefits, it also holds an element of risk for manufacturers, simply in terms of resources, training, time and cost. Going digital will no doubt pay dividends, but that does not play down the complexity and hard work involved.

Whether you already have all your catalogue "BIM-ready" or are at an early stage of modelisation, there are challenges and opportunities ahead. As a manufacturer, it is important to set goals and associated budget in order to plan a realistic digital roadmap, not just to monitor progress, but to keep costs in check. Creating BIM objects is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to digitalisation. There is a whole infrastructure to consider, and its constantly evolving. It is therefore important to make choices today, that will allow for reactivity tomorrow. It’s incredibly hard for manufacturers to do all this alone. Therefore we provide knowledgeable and practical support through your content digitalisation and publication journey.

THE PROS AND CONS OF BIM FOR MANUFACTURERS

main opportunities image

Main Opportunities

Designers select products according to their project requirements but also based on information accessibility.BIM content makes the design process more efficient, thanks to fast data integration, ease of access to documentation and project collaboration.

BIM platforms, marketplaces and databases are new marketing channels to reach specifiers, designers, final users and customers.

BIM content can replace manual tasks such as information retrieving from technical sheets, data input in design software, or project documentation updates, which are often time consuming tasks and common sources of errors.

In our new digital world, to be "BIM-ready" proves how modern and cutting edge a company is. It is also a competitive advantage when accompanied by clear strategy and corresponding investments.

COMMON TRAPS TO AVOID image

COMMON TRAPS TO AVOID

Associated cost to be "BIM-ready" can be significant, from initial modelisation and publication, to later updates. It is important to find balance between internal resources and external service providers to keep control on initial cost and recurrent fees.

There are as many formats, as there are software on the market. To update information through multiple formats and several languages can be complex and costly, especially if not anticipated.

In most of the cases, technical information is missing as BIM is often 3D-oriented. In other cases, manufacturers include too much data from production databases. In both cases, BIM users can't easily access all needed information to select a product reference.

PRODBIM: THE BIM SOLUTIONS FOR MANUFACTURERS

PRODBIM offers manufacturers (both certified and non-certified) a comprehensive service to help identify, streamline and futureproof digital data, manage that data in real time and distribute it across a global network of construction professionals. Additionally, PRODBIM and our partners can help manufacturers create BIM objects, across multiple formats to plug into multiple platforms, all from one central database.

Our services include:

Consultancy

Data needs to be properly organised, characterised and qualified so it remains usable, for the full lifecycle of the project, both now and in the future. Our team is at the forefront of this process, continuously creating and improving mapping between key referentials, while collaboratively developing a "pivot" classification. We can provide consultancy to support manufacturers and companies with existing referentials, so their BIM objects are harmonised to work across multiple platforms and future proofed against changing BIM standards.

Product Information Management (PIM) portal

For many manufacturers, product information is split through several departments and applications. To centralise all the information as a single source of truth under a Product Information Management (PIM) tool can be complex and costly. However, PIM is vital when it comes to managing and updating data, and can offer a wide range of benefits, with systems available to help create intelligent, standardised, interoperable data, which is also agile and flexible. Importantly, centralised PIM data and assets can be deployed to other digital technologies, marketplaces and portals.

The PRODBIM PIM portal by Syndigo enables the continual flow of data and content throughout the entire commerce ecosystem, and is synchronised on a daily basis with the Eurovent Certita Certification database of certified products, providing a unique advantage for ECC certified manufacturers.

Using the PRODBIM PIM portal by Syndigo allows the :

  • Creation / modification of products according to PRODBIM and ETIM taxonomies
  • Association of digital assets (image, documents, etc.)
  • Eurovent Certita Certification product database automatically integrated
  • Export data in Excel and json formats
  • Available for both ECC certified and ECC non-certified products

Web BIM Library and dedicated BIM search engine

PRODBIM offers a harmonised international library of HVAC&R BIM object files and product templates, to the very latest ISO IFC standards and CEN, all seamlessly managed by a Syndigo PIM supplier portal. The library offers manufacturers another touch point to gain product exposure, build brand and offer architects and designers product solutions 365 days a year. It also offers other benefits such as :

  • User-friendly interface for product data enrichment, association with documents, choice of connectors
  • Dedicated support for the easiest on-boarding of data and files
  • Data automatically synchronised from Eurovent Certification website
  • Connector available to EPREL database for energy efficiency labels
  • Connector to BIM&Co, and OnFly, the most downloaded Revit plug-in in Europe!

And the best bit is that manufacturers can upload certified products for free. Enrich your certified data with BIM files to make them available in BIM projects!

BIM object creation and distribution

If you need help creating BIM objects, our partners at BIM&CO have the expertise you need. BIM&CO offer a range of services including BIM object modelling and distribution via the bimandco.com marketplace. Entrust BIM&CO with the care of your data and BIM objects and they will make them available, compatible and easy to use in any software.

PRODBIM has worked with BIM&CO to develop an offering specifically for certified manufacturers. Along with selected free services, BIM&CO is offering significantly discounted pricing on both BIM services (such as BIM object creation) and platform subscriptions.

Access to BIM platforms and marketplaces (complete with certified data)

PRODBIM and BIMobject have been working together to integrate our respective platforms, to supply BIMobject’s 3+ million registered users with Eurovent Certita Certification’s certified performance data. Users of BIMobject’s global marketplace will also be able to verify the reliability of HVAC data on bimobject.com directly through the world-renowned Eurovent Certified Performance mark.

European Product Registry for Energy Labelling (EPREL)

Does your product need an energy label? Since 1 January 2019, suppliers (manufacturers, importers or authorised representatives) must register products required to have an EU energy label in the EPREL database before placing them on the EU market. We can help support applications for EPREL and generate EPREL files ready for upload.

Once again this service is free for certified products.
